Snow Ice Cream

We had record snowfall yesterday!!! Isn't it beautiful?

While helping our neighbor get up our street this morning, he asked if we had made snow ice cream yet.

Huh?...Never heard of it, but sounds fun.

Google to the rescue....

This recipe comes from

1 gallon snow
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk

We had some leftover whipping cream, so I threw in the extra calories, because who doesn't love back fat?

Directions: When it starts to snow, place a large, clean bowl outside to collect the flakes. When full, stir in sugar and vanilla to taste, then stir in just enough milk for the desired consistency. Serve at once.

(Since it had already stopped snowing, I located the cleanest snow and skimmed it off the top.)

It tasted pretty yummy--a lot like homemade ice cream. But most of all, it was fun!

  • Eat it fast or freeze it. It melts quickly.
  • Let your kids do it by themselves. It's so easy, and it's more about the memory, right?

  1. hi becky,
ur beautiful snow scene--esp. the trees is gorgeous ! this is my 1st time to post u, but i couldnt resist because of the snowcone memories u brought up for me...
    chapter 1
before i was 4, i can recall eating white soft or crispy snow and luv'n it. when i started school at 5 in Newfoundland, i walked home daily along the road, hungrily eating snow. it's cold there for a long time and as i saw more, and more pretty colored snow--i thought oh, thats got to be even better! lol!

  2. chapter 2
mom didnt know til she had to take me to the hospital with a very nasty infection, a result of the pretty yellow dog and whatever pee snow...sigh :]
    chapter 3
back to tx, in 3&4 grade, a lady used to use a snowman ice grinder to make wonderful snow cones in a paper cup, domed on top using an ice cream scooper. her flavoring was koolaide powder mixed with sugar and a small amount of water, then drizzled on top--pretty--with a plastic spoon for 35cents! a wonderful upgrade for me, and my parents let me buy about 3x a week, and the lady often gave me a freebie once a week,--so i would take my drool mouth away, i oh what sweet memories-- i wish the same fun memories for ur family.
